Meribel is a popular destination among skiers and endorses a superb and unique skiing area. It is situated in the French Alps, in the foothills of the Meribel Valley. Méribel is built entirely in tasteful chalet-style, with wood siding everywhere. And the centre is very pleasant with raised walkways by the shops above the one-way road. The village has grown rapidly in recent years and now spreads widely over the mountainside.
Just below Meribel, one can find the old spa town of Brides le Bains - ‘the Olympic Village’ that hosted the 1992 Winter Olympics. Its ‘real small town’ feel contrasts with the internationally better known resorts up the mountain which include France’s choicest resort Courchevel, Europe’s highest major resort Val Thorens and also Les Menuires resort. It also offers better value for accommodations than the altitude resorts and is quieter in the evenings, although it is the main administrative and shopping centre Valley.

The centre of the town is small with a river flowing through it with a number of bridges that all lead to some very good restaurants, bars, few nightclubs and also a casino. Furthermore the town has a world class luxury spa open in winter for the skiers. Méribel-Mottaret is a nearby more modern village and it has been built near the head of the Allues valley at an altitude of 1700 metres.
The Ski Area offers is possibility for everyone, from beginners to experts. It has around 600km of piste with over 160 lifts. It is relatively very easy to ski in the 3 valleys even if you are on a short weekend trip – having cruised the sweeping red and blue runs of Courchevel, hammered the snow park in Meribel and gone above the tree line in the snow sure Val Thorens. For complete beginners, the gentle runs of the Altiport in Meribel is the perfect terrian on which to learn.
